| Use | 1. Determination of sulfur, selenium, bismuth, zinc, and iron. Separation of tin from arsenic and antimony, alkylation catalyst, reducing agent, organic synthesis, preparation of organic and inorganic bromides, and high-purity metal refining. 2. Used for the manufacture of various bromine compounds, and also for the pharmaceutical, dye, and perfume industries; it is the basic raw material for the manufacture of various inorganic bromides such as sodium bromide, potassium bromide, lithium bromide, and calcium bromide, as well as certain alkyl bromides such as bromomethane and bromoethane. In medicine, it is used to synthesize sedatives and anesthetics. It is also a good solvent for some metal minerals and used for the refining of high-purity metals. 3. Used in the petroleum industry as an alkylation catalyst. Solvent for alkoxy and phenoxy compounds, and catalyst for the oxidation of alicyclic and paraffin hydrocarbons to ketones, acids, or peroxides. 4. Used in the pharmaceutical industry for the synthesis of sedatives, anesthetics, and other pharmaceutical products. |
